Quick Facts – Meltdown and Spectre

You may be aware of the recent news reports, that vulnerabilities have been discovered with Intel and other computing processors that need to be addressed.

These vulnerabilities are broken into two different issues;

Although recently discovered “Spectre” affects all processors and exploits a fundamental design flaw in CPU architecture and affects all processors manufactured in the last 10 years.

“Meltdown” is a hardware vulnerability, affecting Intel X86 and ARM processors including IOS and Mac devices.  (these could include embedded devices such as mobiles, Smart TV’s etc)

Both vulnerabilities could potentially allow exploitation of the processor, to allow rogue access to devices and data. However, the risk of wide scale exploitation and attack is not considered great.

The entire technology industry is now working to address these challenges, which will not be quick and we are working to industry best practices to make the necessary updates to your devices once these have been made available and stable.
