27 Nov 32,768 Hours and Counting the HP Solid State Drive Failures
HP have released a firmware update after it was revealed that certain Serial-Attached SCSI solid state drives had a significant glitch resulting in them failing at exactly 32,768 hours of operational time.
Whilst we don’t have clients using these, they are not uncommon and are used in multiple Server and Storage environments including the following;
HPE Proliant
Synergy
Apollo
JBOD D3xxx. D6xxx, D8xxx
MSA
StoreVirtual 4335 and 3200
This issue sees the drives fail before the lifespan of the product at exactly 3 years, 270 days and 8 hours! The warranty alone can be extended to 5 years for most.
20 drives are affected and will require firmware updates, However HP have only released updates for 8 of the 20 models with the rest following in the coming weeks.
